Because child trafficking is lucrative and often linked with criminal activity and corruption, it is hard to estimate how many children suffer, but trafficking and exploitation is an increasing risk to children around the world. When human trafficking occurs, children are often trafficked for commercial sexual exploitation or for labor such as domestic servitude, agricultural work, factory work, mining or are forced to fight in conflicts.
Sometimes sold by a family member or an acquaintance, sometimes lured by false promises of education and a "better" life — the reality is that these trafficked and exploited children are held in slave-like conditions without enough food, shelter, or clothing and often severely abused and cut off from all contact with their families.
And many of these victims are girls. In order to maximize our efforts, we work with communities, local organizations and civil society, and national governments to protect children from being exploited, and to help restore the dignity of children who have survived.

The government demonstrated increasing efforts compared to the previous reporting period; therefore Costa Rica remained on Tier 2. These efforts included investigating and convicting more traffickers, taking law enforcement action against complicit government officials, amending the law to establish force, fraud, and coercion as essential elements and remove movement as a required element of the offense, and providing more funding for services to victims.
However, the government did not meet the minimum standards in several key areas. Disbursement of government-funded resources to address trafficking fell short of allocations and remained insufficient overall.
Civil society organizations reported authorities did not always implement referral mechanisms in an effective or timely manner or in coordination with them. Intensify efforts to investigate and prosecute trafficking offenses, and convict and punish traffickers. The government increased law enforcement efforts. These penalties were sufficiently stringent and, with respect to sex trafficking, commensurate with those for other serious crimes, such as rape.
The law defined trafficking broadly to include labor exploitation and illegal adoption without the purpose of exploitation. In Maythe Legislative Assembly amended the law to establish force, fraud, and coercion as essential elements and remove movement as a required element of the offense. The most notable case involved a large-scale transnational labor trafficking case investigated by Costa Rican and Panamanian officials where alleged traffickers recruited adults and children from China and India with false promises of stable jobs and legal status.
The investigation resulted in the arrest of 31 individuals, including 12 government officials who allegedly accepted bribes to allow victims to enter the country without proper documentation.
Five of these officials remained in custody at the close of the reporting period and seven were released on bond pending trial. The government reported the former mayor indicted for establishing a trafficking network in still awaited trial. The government continued to investigate and prosecute individuals that paid child trafficking victims for commercial sex, resulting in 22 convictions incompared with three convictions in and at least one conviction in ; however, officials noted data was incomplete in previous years.
Observers noted improvements in coordination between the Attorney General and OIJ, but a significant backlog of criminal cases, including trafficking cases, slowed prosecutions. The Supreme Court approved and dedicated funds for the implementation of a judicial branch action plan, which prioritized capacity building for the Attorney General, OIJ, and judicial authorities and public awareness-raising on how to identify trafficking.
The government provided anti-trafficking training to law enforcement, prosecutors, immigration officials, labor officials, child welfare officials, educational professionals, and civil society members. The government maintained victim protection efforts. The government identified 20 trafficking victims eight sex trafficking, four forced labor, one both sex trafficking and forced labor, three domestic servitude, and four both domestic servitude and sexual exploitation under the trafficking law, compared to 34 in and three in Four of the victims were Costa Rican, six were Nicaraguan, three were Honduran, two were Colombian, one was Venezuelan, two were Dominican, one was Chinese, and one was Panamanian.
The government provided shelter and health, legal, and psychological services to 20 victims and 10 dependents during the reporting period, including 11 women, five men, 12 girls, and two boys. Law enforcement and immigration authorities used written procedures for identifying victims among vulnerable groups, such as migrants and individuals in prostitution, and referred identified victims to CONATT to coordinate service provision. CONATT coordinated assistance to victims, including emergency, short-term, and long-term assistance, which could include food, lodging, healthcare, financial, legal, and psychological services.
The government did not provide dedicated shelters to male trafficking victims, although the emergency shelter and safe houses could accommodate male victims, and the government worked to ensure male victims received adequate services. The Public Inspection page on FederalRegister. As the United States continues to lead the global fight against human trafficking, we must remain relentless in resolving to eradicate it in our cities, suburbs, rural communities, tribal lands, and on our transportation networks.

ACEs can also negatively impact education and job opportunities.
Human trafficking victims mostly underage children from within the US
However, ACEs can be prevented. ACEs are common. Preventing ACEs could potentially reduce a large number of health conditions. For example, up to 1. Some children are at greater risk than others. ACEs are costly. The economic and social costs to families, communities, and society totals hundreds of billions of dollars each year. ACEs can have lasting, negative effects on health, well-being, and opportunity.
These experiences can increase the risks of injury, sexually transmitted infections, maternal and child health problems, teen pregnancy, involvement in sex trafficking, and a wide range of chronic diseases and leading causes of death such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and suicide.
ACEs and associated conditions, such as living in under-resourced or racially segregated neighborhoods, frequently moving, and experiencing food insecurity, can cause toxic stress extended or prolonged stress. Toxic stress from ACEs can change brain development and affect such things as attention, decision-making, learning, and response to stress.
Children growing up with toxic stress may have difficulty forming healthy and stable relationships. They may also have unstable work histories as adults and struggle with finances, jobs, and depression throughout life. These effects can also be passed on to their own children. Some children may face further exposure to toxic stress from historical and ongoing traumas due to systemic racism or the impacts of poverty resulting from limited educational and economic opportunities.
ACEs are preventable. Creating and sustaining safe, stable, nurturing relationships and environments for all children and families can prevent ACEs and help all children reach their full potential. Pornhub also gave a platform to Michael Pratt, the federally indicted owner of GirlsDoPorn, who coerced and manipulated dozens of women into sending him sexually explicit content.
This is a man who fled the United States after being charged with producing child pornography and trafficking minors. She was only 14 years old. These are just a few examples that prove Pornhub is complicit in and maybe even responsible for sexual abuse, rape, and trafficking. The website is a well-known magnet for sex traffickers and abusers because the website has no age or ID verification requirement to upload a pornographic video.
This is not liberation. The people who hosted rape and child exploitation videos and shut out victims are now exploiting the pandemic crisis to clean up their public image.
They are now claiming that, by making this content free, they are making a contribution to society. Don't let them get away with it. Before you go to watch this smut, know that it might have been obtained through fraud or violence against an underaged girl.
